Cash in Focus: Global Trends and Local Actions
Cash in Focus: Global Trends and Local Actions | Hong Kong Red Cross
The Cash Hub is excited to share that Hong Kong Red Cross is hosting Cash in Focus, a seminar on Global Trends and Local Actions. This event will take place on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, 09:30am – 12:30pm (HKT) (GMT +8).
The practice of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) has become an increasingly important tool in humanitarian response, offering a flexible and dignified means of supporting people affected by disasters. The emergency response following the fire at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, provided a practical local example of this approach, where government departments and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) collectively delivered cash assistance to meet the immediate needs of affected residents. This seminar will reflect on the experience and discuss a way forward, besides feature sharing from global experts within the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Seminar Highlights
- Operational Review: A review of the workflow and technical systems used to deliver rapidly, using the Tai Po Fire response as a practical case study.
- Coordination Mechanism: An evaluation of how shared resource mapping and coordinated efforts among different agencies to support vulnerable groups and streamlined local relief.
- Global Best Practices: Engagement with the Cash Peer Working Group (CPWG), a global body of humanitarian experts, and Red Cross Society of China to discuss optimizing urban disaster response through international best practices.
- Exchanges: Exchange with NGOs and funders on the future of cash assistance programmes and opportunities for humanitarian actions.
